Background

Hass Petroleum (S) Ltd is an affiliate of Hass Group of Companies. The Group has its headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya and operations in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and South Sudan. The Group started operations in Southern Sudan way back in 1998, supplying fuels to the SPLA/Movement through a local contracted company, KKT. After the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) in 2005, the group was the pioneer petroleum company to have courage and venture into Southern Sudan market, following our motor of servicing new frontiers.

Today the company is a fully registered company in Southern Sudan and is licensed to operate by Ministry of Energy and other regulatory authorities to import and market petroleum products in the local market. PHYSICAL ADRESS

Hass Petroleum Sudan Limited head office is located at Sudan Airways Cargo building along the Nile Bank Road.

FUEL STATIONS

The company owns and/or operates 6 stations spread in the Juba town and the South Sudan regions of Torit, Kapoeta, Yei, and Yambio and the Company also has 7 dedicated dealer stations and 2 under construction.

MARKET

The company has developed a sound customer base in the South Sudan in general and Juba in particular that include though not limited to following customers:
UN Agencies, NGOs, Hotels and Camps, Construction Companies, Government Ministry, Retail Stations. Some of key customers enjoy our services include: IOM,WFP,WHO,USIS, Catholic Relief Services, MSF Belgium, MAG, Esko Tropical Business, Kirinyaga Construction Company, GTZ and many more.
The company market  full range of petroleum products- fuels and lubricants. We recently launched in the market our own brand of lubricants- Atroil oil for diesel engine oils, Toperx oils for petrol engine oils, opal oils for manual transmission and other range of lubricants. The company also has logistics to supply the full range of bitumen product on request.

STORAGE AND LOGISTICS


The company import products into South Sudan from Kenya via Kenya Pipeline Company and has opened up a new import route from Khartoum. The company has a current installed storage capacity of 850,000 litres in South Sudan, with plan to increase to 1.45 million litres by 2011.  We operate a fleet of own and contracted fuel tankers for reliable fuel movement to desired destinations in South Sudan. As key player in petroleum industry, we understand and appreciate the importance and continuous supply of fuels to a growing economy like South Sudan. The Hass Group has an agreement with Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) for storage and transportation of fuels and maintains crude oil processing agreements with Kenya Petroleum Refinery Limited (KPRL) for the processing of our share of crude consignment. The group is also an active member of the Petroleum Institute of East Africa (PIE).

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY


As a corporate citizen of South Sudan, we are happy to have taken part in a number social and support activities in the country.  We are the main sponsor of Atlabara Football club for over three years now.  We have a number plans to participate in more social activities in future for example, Juba town cleaning effort, and bursary for needy students.

EXPANSION

From the current 6 operating stations, the company has plans and in the process of increasing the number to over 10 stations by 2011. A construction of 600,000 litre depot at Jabel Kujur is now complete. We have plans to invest in a JET A1 facilities at Juba Airport once the necessary government permits and approvals are granted.

STAFF


The company has a policy to hire most qualified individuals for the roles within the company. Where the company cannot find qualified individual within the organization, the vacancy are opened to external candidates. We are an equal opportunity employer and use efficient and non discriminatory methods of recruitment and selection to identify and fill vacant position the company.. The company has a total work force of over 90 staff, with 75 being local Sudanese staff. We have an ongoing extensive training program for the local staff, with plans to replace the few expatriates with local staff in new future. A lot of progress have been made in this area, we started with 20% local Sudanese staff three years ago, today we have a local work force of 80% and the objective is to grow this to 95% by end of 2010.

CONTRIBUTION TO SOUTH SUDAN ECONOMY

As mentioned above, the company provides employment for over 75 local staff and the number is expected to grow to over 150 by 2011 based on our current business growth and we target to become the largest employer in the private sector.  The company provides rent and lease opportunities to local property owners – the following are some beneficiary of properties leased by the company; Atlabara Sports Club, Muniki station and Gudele station and the rent paid goes into development of the economy.

Our investments are done to the highest level of quality and safety standards and particular attention is given to safety our operations that includes features like advance and easy to use fire fighting equipment, well trained personnel, well constructed and completely covered underground tanks designed to withstand fire as well as effects of war like bombs.
